Check out the stunning and modernist style buildings of Tel Aviv’s White City – an absolute must visit which was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. Here you can see the influence of the graduates of the Bauhaus school of art and design in the extraordinary architecture of the white buildings. Neve Tzedek, the first Jewish neighbourhood to be built outside of Jaffa is home to many artists and you can see this in the architecture and surroundings just talking a leisurely walk through the streets. Go up to the top of the Shalom Tower, where from the observation deck you can see for miles across the sea, sands, and to the hill of Jaffa. The Tel Aviv University area is an interesting place to visit with museums, synagogue and the Jewish Heritage Centre. Also visit the memorial to the assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and the Memorial Garden to the Fallen built for those lost in Israel’s wars. For a bit of culture head to the artists’ quarter in the old town where there are plenty of small shops selling fine art and exquisite jewellery plus Old Jaffa has lots of places to eat and drink and the bustling Old Port area is an exciting and vibrant part of Tel Aviv not to be missed. |
