![]() Cheap Flights to Rome, ItalyAncient but Vibrant, and Utterly Memorable With cheap flights to Rome from EuropebyAir, booking a weekend break in this beautiful and historic city has never been easier. Rome is arguably the most fascinating city in the world. An ancient but vibrant place packed with relics, must see attractions, a wealth of culinary delights and modern fashion; truly a unique experience. There is so much to see in Rome that it’s impossible to list all the attractions here but there are a handful of absolute must-sees for any visitor. Sight Seeing in RomeA definite must whilst on a long or weekend break in Rome is the Vatican City where your first stop should be the awe-inspiring depiction of The Creation by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. The Vatican Museums alone could easily eat up a day or two of a trip to Rome. Highlights include the Stanze di Raffaello (Raphael's Rooms), the Etruscan Museum (depicting Italy before the Romans) and the Pio-Clementino Museum – containing the world's largest collection of classical statues. Even though only the skeletal framework remains, the Colosseum is still a sight to behold. Construction began in AD72 on the arena, which was the scene for entertainment such as gladiatorial conquests between men, lions and wild beasts, with death guaranteed! The best preserved of Rome's ancient monuments, the Pantheon has become an emblem of the city. The Pantheon was built between AD119 and AD128, as a temple to the gods. The radius of the dome is exactly equivalent to its height. A 9 metre (30ft) hole, known as the oculus, in the dome's centre allows light (and rain) into the building. The imaginative Trevi Fountain is situated on a tiny piazza and is one of the most romantic and popular sights in the world. This wonderful water feature is a popular destination for Rome’s visitors, always busy and always worth a visit! Throw a coin into the fountain and legend has it that you will return to Rome again one day. |
